My son, Julian, loves french fries. I can’t recall when he started having fries exactly.
About a year or two ago, I started taking him almost everyday to YMCA for some water-fun times. I didn’t try teaching him how to swim. It was purely for fun. In the beginning, it was very difficult to get him in the water. He was too scared of it. However, as we continued to go to the swimming pool everyday, he began to enjoy his time in the water more.
Now, he’s four. Still, he’s not really swimming “properly”, but he’s good enough to be in the water by himself needing no assistance from me. For me, that’s marked improvement!
Anyhow, we used to get french fries after the swimming fun, and it became a routine for both of us. Although it is junk food, it was a heartwarming experience for me watching Julian enjoy his fries. It’s becoming more of a ritual for us whenever we go for swimming together.
My wife says I’m not a good father, giving him all he wants with no restraint. But, watching him having his fries through the rearview mirror is still putting a smile on me. I really wish Julian will remember it too when he’s older, and hopefully he feels the same as I do now.
