Waiting for iPhone… Too Painful…

iPhone is here in Canada

iPhone is here in Canada

I have ordered an iPhone for my wife on Jul 22, 2008. I had to call Fido in order to get 6G/$30 Data Plan as well since it was not available when you order on-line. Been on the phone for an hour talking to CSR, and he told me I will receive the iPhone in 3-5 business days.

Today is Jul 31, 2008. Still nothing. I felt impatient, and called Fido, and it hasn’t been shipped out. When it’ll be shipped? Aug 4, 2008 (which happens to be a holiday). Now, I’ll probably receive it sometime next week, assuming it’ll be shipped on Aug 5, 2008. Am I sure I will get my wife an iPhone next week? Hell, no…

They have such a terrible customer support when it comes to iPhone. It’s been almost three weeks since iPhone was released on Jul 11, 2008. It must be selling like crazy since I need to wait 10 – 14 business days to get one in my hands. But then, my wife will need to port her number from Rogers to Fido. Who knows how long that’ll take. I read from the web somewhere that one person had to wait for a full week to get the number ported.

Luckily, “Invisible Shield for iPhone 3G” is already delivered so that I can put it on once I verify the phone is in good working order.

I’ll have my fingers crossed.

iPhone

When iPhone was released in the States last year, I couldn’t resist getting my hands on that darn thing. It looked so cool. The most appealing merit was “iPod and phone in one device” for me. I don’t like carrying a lot of stuff, so is my wife. My wife picked a car mainly because the car key is significantly smaller than the other. (Of course, the decision was not entirely made on the key, but it played a major role in us getting the new BMW X5.)

The point is, carrying a cell phone in one pocket while holding my iPod sounds silly after iPhone was released. I like that fact that iPhone will pause the music if I get an incoming call, and it resumes the playback when I’m done talking. Now, I wouldn’t be missing calls because I’m listening on my iPod or I was too late shoving my iPod to *other* pocket in order to fish out my cell phone…

So, there it is. I got my wife an iPhone last August, and I got myself iPhone when I was in Florida this March. My life was so much better with iPhone during the last four months. A few things to note:

  • I can enter new contact or manage my calendar on my iPhone. When I sync it to my Mac when I get home, all the changes are propagated to all my Macs. Awesome!
  • I can finally watch movies with subtitle! My 5G iPod was great that it plays videos, but the screen is so small I thought I will love my vision watching movies on it. Now, it’s whole lot better!
  • Whenever I am lost, I can open “Google Maps” and locate myself where I am.

So, when the new iPhone was announced in Canada, I made up my mind. I sell my iPhone, get my wife’s current iPhone, and my wife gets a brand-new iPhone 3G!

After a no-sweat sale of my iPhone for $350, I ordered iPhone 3G for my wife. Hopefully it’ll get here in a couple of days. The fact that she can check here e-mail and browse web while on the road is priceless. Now, she would love having access to all web-enabled apps at all times!

Welcome, iPhone 3G!
